For the second month in a row the unemployment figure in Nottingham North has risen, with 3,243 people unemployed - the ninth highest figure in the country and an increase of 83 from a month ago.
Labour MP Graham Allen said: “Our area struggles with a lack of jobs and opportunities. The fact that unemployment has fallen elsewhere, yet in Nottingham North it has risen shows we are being left behind. We need investment and living wages not cuts and austerity.
“The answer is to increase the minimum wage and ban zero hours contracts so people can earn a decent amount for the work they do. We should also give every school leaver who gets the basic grades a job/apprenticeship.”
The total number of Jobseeker’s Allowance claimants was 7.4 per cent of the economically active population, aged 16 to 64, in Nottingham North.
