The damage to the surrounding areas near the Bulwell Business Centre caught blaze was limited after an electrical substation caught fire.

The fire broke out at lunchtime yesterday, Thursday, August 15 and crews from Hucknall, Eastwood, Stockhill and Arnold and Western Power Distribution were on the scene at Sellars Wood Drive and have isolated the power.

Group manager Mick Sharman, who attended the incident, said: “This fire involved a substation on an industrial park,

“During the course of the incident the crews used quite a large amount of foam and we have fortunately been able to limit the damage to the surrounding area.”

A Western Power Distribution spokesman said: “There were 45 units on the industrial estate without power.

“As the fire brigade were still on the scene we are limited to what we could do as we had restricted access.”

The power was back on yesterday evening.

While the firefighters were tackling the blaze residents were urged to stay indoors and keep windows closed due to the large plume of smoke.

Two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets and two foam jets were used to put out the blaze.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said after the incident: “The fire on Sellers Wood Drive, Bulwell, is now out - the substation involved has been severely damaged.”
