HUCKNALL TAKING STEPS group has just passed a special milestone — its tenth anniversary.
The group was formed to encourage walking for health and many people of different age ranges have taken advantage of the initiative over the years.
As many as 40 people take part in the walks, for which qualified leaders are provided. One of these is Sandy Singleton, who has just stepped down as the group’s secretary.
She said: “Taking Steps continues to be very well supported and it is a worthwhile project to be involved with.”
The walks take place each Monday and Wednesday, all of them starting from Under One Roof on Vine Terrace at 10 am.
Monday’s walks last for 45 to 50 minutes and are routed along streets in the Hucknall area, while those on Wednesday go to ‘wilder’ places such as the Linby Trail.
As well as helping people to keep fit, Taking Steps has an important social role in helping to combat loneliness and many friendships have been formed during the walks.
