A COSTUME-maker from Hucknall helped set the stage for a theatrical wedding-proposal from a man dressed to impress as the phantom of the opera.
Jessica Wall, who runs the Fancy Pants fancy-dress shop on Annesley Road, created the costume for Stephen Williams as a key prop in an elaborate plan to pop the question in Venice, Italy.
The 38-year-old, of Ellistown, Leicestershire, spared no expense on the romantic trip and thankfully, his girlfriend, Jennifer Tomlinson (30), said yes.
The proposal — a tribute to the couple’s favourite musical — took seven months of planning, cost thousands of pounds, involved an Italian wedding-planner and even a film crew to ensure the event was captured for posterity.
But one of the undoubted key elements was the red and black outfit, complete with mask, created by Jessica.
The couple went to London’s West End to see the ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ show before their four-day trip to Venice.
The proposal also involved a gondola ride to a secret palace, decorated with more than 300 candles.
Stephen’s proposal and Jessica’s costume-design have since attracted a lot of interest and have even prompted an article in the national Press.
Stephen said: “I first met Jessica in 2010 when we needed costumes for a masquerade party. We heard of her by word of mouth, which shows how highly people regard her.
“I was delighted that Jessica designed my red ‘Phantom Of The Opera’ engagement costume, red cape and mask.”
Said Jessica: “I was thrilled to be asked by Stephen to create his costume. I am absolutely amazed to see my design get so much publicity.”
