CONFETTI and sugared almonds are staples of the traditional wedding reception. But for one Hucknall couple, their guest list included..........tents and Vikings!

Lloyd Fuller (25) married Kaye Hannah at St Mary’s Church in Bulwell on Saturday September 24 — the day before Kaye‘s 35th birthday.

But it was when the reception started that their unusual theme unfolded in its full glory.

The break from the norm started with the venue — the Robin Hood Campsite in Ravenshead. Lloyd is a long-term member of the Scouts and Kaye, who formerly managed the John Godber Centre in Hucknall, is involved in Guides, hence the camping theme.

Guests pitched tents and stayed overnight at the site.

Then the entertainment took centre stage with Lloyd, who is a former pub landlord, at the heart as a rampaging Viking.

Lloyd, who grew up on Ravensworth Road in Bulwell, is a member of the Leathernecks Viking Group, which performs authentic re-enactments.

Fourteen members of the group, in full costume, staged a thrill-a-minute fight.

Later, Lloyd and Kaye enjoyed their first night as a married couple sleeping outdoors in a traditional Viking tent.

Lloyd’s aunty, Jo Redmile, of Edgware Road, Bulwell, said: “It was an absolute whirlwind and never a dull moment. Everyone was gobsmacked by what was happening.”

Lloyd and Kaye met in 2002 during rehearsals for the bi-annual Nottingham Guides and Scouts Gang Show. Lloyd joked that Kaye would be his wife.

He proposed on Christmas Day, and friends and family were involved in arranging their spectacular wedding, including Kaye’s mum, Jeanne Collison, who turned 60 on the day.

Lloyd’s mum, Gina Nicholls, is ex-landlady of the former Scots Grey pub in Bulwell. She is an assistant leader of the 48th Nottingham Beavers at St Mary’s Church, Bulwell. Kaye is a member of the Guides at Ravensworth Road Methodist Church in Bulwell.

Both were involved in reviving the North Nottinghamshire Gang Show, which will held again next year in Mansfield.

They didn’t bother with a ‘first dance’ at their reception and laid on a Broadway-style routine instead!
