Volunteers stepped up to start work on the refurbishment programme at Hucknall’s John Godber Centre.
Over the weekend, John Gibson, Peter Vosey, Stephen Handley and Kim Pears and got stuck in to the work which included ripping out the floors and ceilings in the toilets ready for the workman to start installing new facilities at the Ogle Street community venue.
“It was an enjoyable day and nice to volunteer and put something back into the community,” said manager Kim Pears.
“By doing some of the donkey work ourselves we can save money to put it towards the improvements rather than us pay someone to rip out the old.”
The centre managed to acquire a £90,000 grant from Wren towards the renovation scheme which will be supplemented by money raised through centre events.
“User-groups are being very supportive during the work and are looking forward to the improvements.”
