MAKING his debut at the Yew Tree pub in Hucknall tomorrow night (Saturday) is Motown and Northern Soul DJ, Paul Lightly.
This well-known music fan hosts a Motown and Northern Soul show on Acacia Radio, of Annesley, on Wednesday nights and will now bring his 35 years experience of this genre, which has a cult following, to the popular pub.
Landlady Jacqui Burton and husband Lee, who took over the pub just over a year ago, have secured his DJ skills on the last Saturday of each month.
“We are really looking forward to welcoming Paul to the Yew Tree and I’m sure he will prove a big hit with our motown music fans,” said Jacqui.
It’s not just Motown though as all music tastes are catered for at this Nottingham Road venue.
Live music features on the first Saturday of the month. The next band lined up, a heavy metal group called Copperhead, are set to play on September 1.
Ferny and Paul will bring their funk and boogie night back on the second Saturday of each month with hits from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Scooter nights for mod fans, featuring ska and skin-head reggae, brought your way by Mez, come to the Yew Tree on the third Saturday of the month.
But it’s not just about the music. Jacqui and Lee are happy to welcome new customers who want to start up or join their pool, darts or football teams.
And as the Yew Tree is a freehouse pub, they are not limited to one brewery’s products, making them competitively priced with a number of additional ales on offer.
“We have just joined up with Hucknall’s Lincoln Green Brewery to bring their cask ale here,” explained Jacqui. “This is proving very popular with our customers.”
“We also offer Samuel Smith bitter and mild for just £1.90 a pint, John Smiths at £2.40, Carling at £2.65 and Strongbow for £2.50 a pint.
“Our drinks are reasonably priced every day of the week.”
