Young women focus on work-life balance

STUDENTS representing Bulwell Academy have played their part in the success of the National Council of Young Women’s (NCYW) annual intergenerational seminar at Nottingham Girls’ High School.

Ten teenagers from the academy, accompanied by their teacher, Jackie Morgan, took part in an event with a theme of achieving a positive work-life balance in increasingly difficult times.

Barbara Maddison, who lives in Bulwell and is NCYW’s joint national co-ordinator, and Dr Andrea Venn, an associate professor at Nottingham City Hospital, gave talks at the seminar.

Mrs Maddison highlighted advances that had benefited women and brought them increased opportunities.

Dr Venn spoke about her personal work-life balance and the difficulties of combining a successful career with the responsibilities of being a wife and mother.

Several other schools took part with a total audience of 70 and Mrs Maddison said: “This has been one of our most productive seminars.”
