Community rallied together for Jubilee street party

Have your say

OUR Diamond Jubilee street party on St Mary’s Way/George Street in Hucknall was held on Sunday June 3 (even in the rain). We held this party with no funding and it was a case off people rallying everything together, from the food and drink to the tables, gazebos, bunting, royal masks and items for games.

This event was registered with The Big Lunch and ASDA’s ‘Having A Field Day’, which which donated rosettes, badges, kites, flags and much more.

The main organisers were myself, Catherine Evans, Julie Parkin and Graham Thomson.

The party was officially opened by Hucknall ‘hero’ Eddie Heath and local resident Sue Birkin dressed up as the Queen.

We were not able to hold the games due to rain, but the party carried on. Children played with kites and we held the games the next day, including egg and spoon, sack and three-legged races, a tug-of-war, welly wanging, musical plates, pass the parcel, pop the balloon and smash the pinata. Winners and runners-up recieved trophies and rosettes, as well as McDonalds’ ‘Happy Meal’ toys.

At the end of the second day, we let off red, white and blue lanterns.

I would like to thank all that helped make this event a success and those who turned up on both days.

Also, thankyou to residents who were unable to come but still sent food or drinks for the party.

Well done to everyone who made this event one to remember.

We are looking at doing another event soon, so if anyone is interested in helping, contact one of the above organisers.
