I READ this week the list of the 12 towns initially selected to receive funding from the £1.2 million Mary Portas pot to assist regenerate high streets around the country.
I noticed that Hucknall was not selected. Did we bother to put in a bid?
Perhaps someone could write in to advise if we did and what the plans submitted were.
I wonder if Ashfield District Council bothered to read the published review because one of the 28 recommendations was: “Nine local areas should implement free controlled parking schemes that work for their town centres, and we should have a new parking ‘league table‘.
I doubt it here because we have all noticed that the parking fees around Hucknall have increased significantly. Towns like Market Rasen, Bedminster and Stockport, who have received high-street cash, seem to have taken this advice and introduced free parking. But it seems that Ashfield Council has a better plan.
Perhaps the council could write to Mary Portas with our successful plan for Hucknall, and she could include it in her next review document.
