WITH reference to the Diamond Jubilee events held in Papplewick and the articles carried by the Dispatch last week.
We did indeed all enjoy the first Griffin’s Head four-day beer festival, so well done to landlady and landlord, Nicky and Baz Mayoh, for organising this (hopefully more in the future).
Thanks also to them for working so well with the other groups involved to make the fun day a success.
Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group (PLLEG) sponsored the bands and ran the cake and plant stalls and tombola, all profits from this (£453) were passed over to The Village Ladies group, who fundraise for good causes every year.
The Ladies themselves were busy on the day organising the children’s and adults’ races and awarding medals. The barn dance in Linby on Saturday of the Bank Holiday Jubilee weekend, also sponsored by PLLEG, raised £3,000 for good causes.
Papplewick and Linby Cricket Club also showed a profit at the entertaining challenge match on Bank Holiday Tuesday. So, all in all, an excellent community effort by the two villages !
