Sentences should be heavier for animal abuse

HOW horrendous and upsetting for all animal lovers and caring people to see the ‘Horror On The Farm’ in the Dispatch recently.

I know that animal cruelty (as with most evil deeds) is happening constantly in the world, and it is a terrible thing.

This was a very extreme case and no words can fully describe how bad it was. Any level of animal cruelty is unforgivable and inexcusable and anyone who is guilty of it is, in my opinion, a disgrace to the human race.

Dumb, defenceless animals are at our mercy. That’s not their choice, it’s because we put them in that position.

The least any decent person should do is to give them sufficient food, water and shelter to live comfortably.

With regard to pets, then love and care should be given as well. I hope I’m right in believing that the majority of people do treat all animals with care, kindness and respect. I certainly hope so, anyway.

I think that the one-year jail-sentence given to this man for his deeds should have been far longer than that. Surely it only shows that our authorities and laws don’t value the welfare and treatment of animals anywhere near as highly as they should.

Perhaps longer sentences for any level of animal cruelty may save some animals from becoming victims of it in the future.

Beautiful, humble, dumb, defenceless animals should always be treated with care and respect. It’s the very least they deserve.

Please excuse me for not going into much detail about this awful hell on this farm, because I find it too upsetting.

Lastly, I want to thank the very good people who rescued these poor animals, and also those lovely people who help mistreated animals every day. Thankyou to all of you.

NEIL UNWIN,

George Street,

Hucknall.
