JUBILANT PLOUGH BARFLIES stormed into the semi-finals of the NOTTS FA SUNDAY SENIOR COUNTY CUP with six of the best to knock out St Joseph’s.
A hat-trick from livewire striker Joe Ashurst paved the way for a 6-2 victory by Hucknall’s longest-standing Hucknall Sunday club.
Barflies were being held 2-2 at half-time by St Joseph’s, who hail from Sutton and play in the Mansfield League. But they took command in the second period, with Ricky Hodgson (2) and Richard Harrison also on target.
They have now been drawn against Notts Sunday Morning League champions Clumber, who were the 2009 winners and last season’s runners-up.
However Barflies will not be joined in the last four by BESTWOOD MINERS WELFARE, who crashed to an 8-2 defeat away to another Mansfield League outfit, Bilsthorpe Celtic.
Notts Combination side Bestwood failed to find the form that saw them defeat former winners, FS (Flying Scotsman) Clumber, of Retford, in the previous round.
The tie of the round, between the holders, Chesterfield Arms, and the 2010 runners-up, Trentside, was postponed and will be played this weekend.
However the match involving Clumber did go ahead. The scores were level at 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes but Clumber eventually defeated AS Plant United, of Clipstone, 7-3 after extra-time.
