IT WAS a case of like father, like daughter for a Hucknall kick-boxing club at a national tournament in Ilkeston.
For Dion Nangle (35) and his 12-year-old daughter Ashleigh, of Hucknall Freestyle Kickboxing based at JR's Gym on Watnall Road, scooped top awards at the European Martial Arts Association's President's Trophy event.
The tournament featured clubs from all over the UK. But Dion emerged from retirement to win a silver medal in the under-80kg black-belt category, while Ashleigh received a bronze medal in the girls' under-5' coloured-belt category, despite being the youngest and smallest in the group.
Other successful members of the club were 17-year-old Ashley Gammon, who won gold in the under-70kg coloured-belt group in his first tournament fighting adults; Darrell Jones (31), who took bronze in the 80kg coloured-belt group; Andy Guest (28), who scooped bronze in the 85kg coloured-belt category, pipping teammate Craig Woolley (22); and Zac Waldron (19), who finished fourth in the 70kg coloured-belt category. Dominic Mellors also competed for the club.
Dion said: "I had officially retired but came back and was pleased with how I did – although I might hang up my gloves now. I was really proud of Ashleigh because she had to fight against bigger girls. She did really well."
