The blow of seeing their title chances go up in smoke was erased when BESTWOOD MINERS WELFARE SPORTS CLUB returned to winning ways in the Premier Division of the Midland Amateur Alliance.
Bestwood had to accept they weren’t going to win the league when beaten 2-0 the previous week by unbeaten runaway leaders, AS Plant United. It left them fully 30 points behind, albeit with seven games in hand.
But they remain in third place, and on target for the runners-up spot, after a comfortable 2-0 victory away to bottom-of-the-table Kirkby Athletic last Saturday. Bestwood’s goals were scored by Ricky Hodgson and Danny Carter in what was their ninth win from 13 league matches. Next up are mid-table Mansfield Hosiery Mills at home.
