Brilliant BULWELL have wrapped up their second successive Notts Senior League, Senior Division title -- six games early!
The league had to be re-jigged to accommodate the disbandment of Clifton. And the fresh standings meant The Bulls needed only five points to be crowned champions.
They duly whacked Wollaton 6-1 last Saturday before triggering the champagne celebrations with victory at Selston on Tuesday night.
Now they are planning to seek new challenges by moving up to the Central Midlands League next season.
Wollaton are managed by Bulwell’s former manager Geoff Pallett. But they were no match for his unbeaten old team, who cantered home on the back of four goals from Conor Carter and two from man-of-the-match Ian Marley.
Carter made the most of his starting berth, in the absence of Alan Jeffries, opening his account after only ten minutes from a Ross McCaughey cross.
Marley then nestled a 30-yard beauty in the bottom corner on 26 minutes before Bulwell got sloppy and almost let Wollaton back in it.
Poor play by Marek Vipond and Dwayne Soar gifted chances to veteran Richard Ranshaw and Paul Markowski -- the first rattling the bar and the second bringing an excellent save from James Wheat.
However, Bulwell got their act together again in the second period and unleashed an amazing burst of four goals inside 11 minutes before Jordan Smith netted a late consolation for the home side.
Carter converted a defence-splitting pass from Josh Niblett and completed his hat-trick. Marley rounded the ‘keeper and Carter pounced again after good work by Dave Ward.
BULWELL LINE-UP: Wheat/ Murdock, McCaughey, Niblett J., Soar D., Marley, King, Moore, Litchfield, Carter C., Vipond. Subs: Knight (for Vipond 58), Ward (for Moore 74).
