Although encouraged by Mansfield Town’s season so far, the majority of Chad readers who voted in yesterday’s poll still believe the club need to bolster the squad further during the January transfer window.
James Baxendale, in on loan from Walsall with a view to a permanent deal, became the first January signing on Saturday and went on to give a man of the match display and score in the win over Stevenage.
We asked if you thought he was the final piece of the jigsaw that boss Adam Murray had been missing?
A majority of 64 per cent of you said the Stags’ squad is still short of a player or two in the window if they want to stay in the chase.
Encouragingly, 19 per cent felt Baxendale was exactly the X-Factor player Stags were missing and they are now strong enough to chase the play-offs.
Another 12 per cent said Baxendale’s signing was a good move and now Murray just needs to secure Blair Adams on a permanent basis to complete a decent play-off chasing squad.
However, three per cent of you still feel that, although Murray has the core of a play-off chasing squad, it’s not big or strong enough this season to get over the line and next year could be their time.
