Thwarted HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE crashed out of a cup competition at the quarter-final stage for the third time this season.

Rolls were beaten 4-2 by Belper in the last eight of the Central Midlands League Cup -- only seven days after losing to the same side after a penalty shootout in the league’s Floodlit Cup.

A reshuffled side had to do without a handful of key players and found themselves two down by the 25th minute as Belper’s Sam Vickers finished well after a neat turn in the box and then converted a penalty.

Rolls’s anguish grew when they lost Aaron Short nand Greg Conn to further injuries, and then missed a penalty of their own, with Chay Bettridge’s kick being saved.

Substitute Harry Allen did lob them back into it and after Belper had punished a mistake by Jamie Thomas to make it 3-1, Rory Smith cut the deficit again with a fine volley. However, the home team sealed the tie two minutes from time.
