Tabletopping HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE got in the mood for one of their biggest matches of recent seasons by delivering an eight-goal spectacular.
Rolls entertain unbeaten Central Midlands League, North Division leaders AFC Mansfield in the First Round of the Notts FA Saturday Senior County Cup this coming Saturday.
Moneybags Mansfield have won eight of their nine games to far this term, amassing a goal-difference of plus-41.
But The Rollers warmed up with a result The Bulls themselves would have been proud of, slamming Sandhurst 8-1.
It returned Jez Corthorn and Jonathan Wass’s troops to winning ways in the Notts Senior League’s Senior Division after their first defeat the previous week.
Greg Conn opened the scoring in the 18th minute, breaking clear down the right flank before finishing with a sweet angled strike.
And Rolls went on to dominate the first half, creating numerous chances, although converting only one when Andy Start netted a minute before the break.
The second period followed much the same pattern, with the home side controlling the game for long spells.
They added six more goals and, at times, their passing and movement were a pleasure to watch. Start went on to complete a hat-trick, while Kane Matthews plundered a treble of his own and well-regarded midfielder Jack James also got on the scoresheet.
Sandhurst’s 78th minute consolation goal was scored by club stalwart Cliff Clarke with a cool finish inside the area.
