It rained goals in four matches involving LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE RESERVES and HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE RESERVES in the First Division of the Notts Senior League.

No fewer than 30 were scored -- and not all in the right net!

Linby raced to a 6-2 victory at Magdala Amateurs last Saturday, with the help of four goals from Alistair Murray, including a hat-trick of headers. But they had lost 4-3 at home to Ashland Rovers in midweek.

Rolls followed up a 6-2 romp at home to Nottinghamshire in midweek by being hit for six themselves against Gedling Southbank.

New managers Reece Jackson and Andy Tring could not have been pleased with what they witnessed in the 6-1 reverse against Southbank.

Trailing 3-1 at the interval, they were downed by a hat-trick from the visitors’ striker Brian Hickling. James Needham (2) and Tom Jeffries were also on target for Southbank, with Rolls’s only response an own goal from Darren Gent.

It had been a very different story against Nottinghamshire when doubles from Andy Start and Jonathan ‘Hotdog’ Buckley helped to ease The Rollers home.

Man-of-the-match Jamie ‘Midge’ Thomas and new signing Lee Cooper also found the net, with Luke Brown replying for the visitors, who had Ciaran Gibbons sent off.

LINBY found themselves top of the table after their eclipse of Magdala, which also featured strikes from Ross Cheeseman and Luke Price.

They did allow the home team to fight back from 3-0 down to 3-2 at one stage. But normal service was soon resumed.
