Impressive HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE banished a run of three successive defeats with a terrific win at Danny Bacon’s Blidworth Welfare in the Central Midlands League, South Division.

Highly-rated Blidworth, who boast a talented, young side, plus excellent facilities, had proved their worth by knocking Bulwell out of the league’s Floodlit Cup in midweek.

But they were no match for Rolls, who strode to a 2-0 victory, courtesy of second-half goals by Harry Allen and Jack Smith.

Allen marked his return from suspension with a man-of-the-match performance in midfield and opened the scoring in the 55th minute when rising to head home a set-play delivered by Chay Bettridge.

Five minutes later, an intelligent pass by Rory Smith released Jack Smith, who cut inside the last defender to finish expertly.

Blidworth responded well and not only forced recalled goalkeeper Jack Walker into a couple of smart saves but also made Rolls’s defenders work overtime, with Greg Conn coping well in an unfamiliar role at centre-back and James Duncan making one brilliantly-timed challenge late on.

The home side also struck the base of a post with a thunderous shot, from which ex-Hucknall Town star Bacon failed to convert the rebound.

However, the Jez Corthorn and Jonathan Wass’s Rolls continued to carry an attacking threat of their own, and the points were deserved on the strength of a commanding first-half showing when Harry Allen twice hit the woodwork, Bettridge had a volley well saved and wing-backs Rory Smith and Jamie Thomas were always a threat.
