Improving AFC DOWHAN are threatening to launch a serious promotion push after another fine performance accounted for Queen Adelaide Reserves in the Notts Sunday Morning League’s Senior Third Division.
Getting stronger every week, Dowhan thumped Adelaide 6-1 to avenge a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the same team earlier in the season.
They found themselves one down inside ten minutes when Dom Clarke squeezed a shot past ‘keeper Gary Hickman. But they were 2-1 nup by the break as winger Nick David hit a superb strike from 18 yards into the top corner and captain Luke Parkin, who bossed the midfield all morning, slotted home a twice-taken penalty, awarded for a foul on Jonny Bernard.
Parkin tucked away another spot-kick in the second half, while Adelaide missed one. Tom Coupe, finally getting his chance up front, netted two of the other goals, making the most of good work by David and Damo Balandowits, before the rout was completed by defender Aaron Cotterill, who drove home a 35-yard free-kick.
