As teams prepare for their first fixtures of 2015, organisers are predicting the most exciting and closest fought title race since the inauguration of the HUCKNALL SIX-A-SIDE MONDAY NIGHT LEAGUE.
The 12 teams have completed their first six matches in the Leisure Leagues competition, with two of them, reigning champions Abu Dhabi and Naughty America, still unbeaten. But such is the quality of football at The National Academy that three other sides, Team 316, Baywatch Babes and Asian Persuasion, are within five points of top spot too.
In the latest round of games, staged just before Christmas, Abu Dhabi made it six wins out of six by defeating bottom side Tea And Busquets 4-0. But the sizeable gap in the table between the two teams did not prevent the underdogs giving a fine account of themselves.
Naughty America also extended their unbeaten run to six matches by registering their fifth win. It was tight, though, as they scraped home 3-2 against mid-table Warriors thanks largely to a man-of-the-match performance by Jack Paterson.
Team 316 moved into third place with an eyecatching 5-2 win over in-form Asian Persuasion and also have a game in hand on the leaders. Star of the show was Daz Scrimshaw, whose man-of-the-match display lifted him into second spot in the league’s player of the season table.
The result also moved Team 316 above Baywatch Babes, who slid to only their second defeat of the campaign. The Babes were stunned by Wa1tz D1sn3y, who bounced back from two successive defeats, including one of 8-0, to unleash their best performance so far in an 8-2 romp. Tom Eastwood took the man-of-the-match accolade.
In the week’s remaining two games, the points were shared by The Groomsmen and Newstead in a 1-1 draw, while Heaton Sports were in sxparkling form to beat KFC 6-1, helped by a man-of-the-match display from Callum Wilson.
