It was a night to remember for the lads who play for Hucknall Sports Under-10s.
The chance to grace Nottingham Forest’s pitch at the City Ground, rub shoulders with Forest’s promotion-chasing stars and parade in front of the Sky Sports TV cameras.
It all happened at the end of last month when Forest entertained Watford in a Sky Bet Championship match televised live by Sky.
Forest asked the Young Elizabethan League to put forward a team who play in red (like Forest) to act as mascots at the match.
So Sports chairman Alan Spray suggested his under-10s’ Saturday team, who are managed by Dean Wealthall, because they won promotion to the top division last season.
They duly got the nod and were given the VIP treatment, alongside a team from Carlton Town Boys, who play in yellow (like Watford).
The boys were disappointed when Sky had to abandon plans for all the Forest and Watford players to shake hands with the mascots because there wasn’t enough time in their schedule.
But they still lined up with flags and accompanied the players on to the pitch before taking their seats in the Bridgford Stand to watch an exciting match in which Forest hit back from 2-0 down to win 4-2.
The Sports lads also took part in -- and won -- a relay race against Carlton at half-time.
It started with Andrew Sargent at the Trent End with ball in hand. He ran in front of the main stand before passing the ball to his twin brother Stephen, who was on the halfway-line.
From there, it went to Joel Wealthall in front of the Main Stand’s A Block and he ran across the pitch to Oliver Hutchinson in front of the Brian Clough Stand.
Oliver charged to the halfway-line where Joe Dallison, with the ball at his feet, ran back to the Trent End to slam it into the net and spark wild celebrations with his teammates.
The other Sports players who took part in the night were Max Gizbourne, Max Sims, Josh Marshall, Ethan Stevenson, Finley Saxton, Kerrin Papworth and George Disney.
