Rapidly-improving LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE RESERVES are as high as third in the Notts Senior League, First Division table after their sixth win in seven matches.

Bouncing back from their county cup mishap of the previous week, Linby beat Radcliffe Olympic Reserves 3-2 in what was a re-run of their Junior League Cup final last season.

Captain Ross Cheeseman led by example, opening the scoring in the first minute after good work by full-back Darren Dickens. And although Radcliffe levelled with a well-taken goal from Corbi Brown, Cheeseman then set up the goal of the game, crossing for man-of-the-match Kurt Savage to thump a superb volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

Cheeseman found the net again himself on 48, sidefooting home a cross by Dickens, and although Christian Mantesolo cut the deficit on 75, Linby were always in command and hit the woodwork no fewer than four times through Aaron Potter, Johnny Bernard and Luke Price (twice).
