Buoyant HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE are as high as third in the table after becoming the latest team to dispatch bottom-of-the-table fall-guys Eastwood Community in the Central Midlands League’s (CML) South Division.
Rolls’s 5-0 win was half-expected against a newly-formed side yet to register a single point in 11 outings. But the start they have made to their debut season in the CML must be beyond their wildest dreams.
They controlled the game from the off, with Jack Allen heading against the bar from a peach of a cross by Rory Smith, who repeated the dose moments later for Chay Bettridge to volley home with his wand of a left foot.
Moments later, Smith got on the scoresheet himself, showing fine composure to tap home a square ball from striker Jack Smith. And as the floodgates opened, Rolls added three more goals in the second period.
Kane Matthews snapped up a rebound after shot had hit the bar from Jack Allen, who then bagged a double. First he slid in to lift a shot over the ’keeper and next he planted a clever header from another sublime cross by man-of-the-match Rory Smith.
Allen should have completed his hat-trick, only to somehow shoot wide after rounding the ‘keeper.
