Andreas Kokkinou played a key role as HUCKNALL WARRIORS’ senior side returned to form with a 2-1 victory away to Priory Celtic in the Third Division of the EMPAL Sunday League.
As Warriors fought back from a goal down at half-time, man-of-the-match Kokkinou scored the equaliser, half-volleying home from a long throw by Tom Hall, and earned the winner when he was pushed in the box for a penalty that was powered in by Macauley Spencer, giving the ‘keeper no chance.
Minutes later, Regan Scott was unlucky not to add a third goal when his bullet of a shot ricocheted off the bar. But at the other end, Warriors were indebted to goalkeeper Adam Treece for pulling off two fine saves late on.
Priory had taken a tenth minute kead with a spot-kick of their own, awarded for a foul and converted by Daniel Tate. But Warriors bounced back well and Kokkinou saw a shot rebound off a post, while Spencer, Joe Cox and Jeremy Moran also went close in an entertaining match packed with incident.
