A goal with virtually the last kick of the game settled a tight local derby between PLOUGH BARFLYS and GREEN DRAGON in the Premier Premier Division of the NOTTS SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE.
The match looked certain to be heading for a goalless draw after plucky Dragon had given as good as they had received to bely their position at the bottom of the table.
But in the dying seconds, Barflys’ seasoned midfielder Jonty Bradshaw pounced for a shot from close range that pinched his side a 1-0 win and broke Dragon hearts.
The goal lifted the home side to fourth place in the table but condemned the newly-promoted visitors to their sixth consecutive defeat.
Norma Hatfield’s side now have seven matches in which to stave off relegation and salvage their top-flight status.
But the manner in which they battled against Barflys offered plenty of encouragement for the league’s leading female manager.
They might even have snatched the points themselves when home ‘keeper Aaron Wilby stretched to prevent a well-placed free-kick ffrom Kane Matthews sneaking into the bottom corner.
At the other end, Dragon goalkeeper Jamie Taylor pulled off a stupendous save, but could do nothing about Bradshaw’s winner.
