Big guns BULWELL and HUCKNALL TOWN are looking forward to returning to action this weekend after a blank Saturday.

Neither The Bulls nor The Yellows had scheduled fixtures last weekend. In fact, because of postponements too, Town have missed three consecutive rounds of action and have not played since Saturday 22nd February when they held high-riding South Normanton Athletic to a 2-2 draw at Watnall Road.

Andy Graves’s side return to the fray this Saturday with a home match against another of the title challengers, second-placed Clifton All Whites.

And Bulwell will be hoping they can do them a favour as they enter the final lap of their championship push.

After last Saturday’s victory over Linby Colliery Welfare, Clifton sit just two points behind The Bulls with a game in hand.

The pair have at least six points’ breathing space over third place, but it’s still too early to rule out Normanton, Allenton United, Bilborough Pelican and even seventh-placed Belper United from the title race.

Terry Witts and Steve Osborne’s side have eight matches to play in total -- including a local derby against Linby and potential ‘six-pointers’ against Allenton and Belper.

Clifton also have Allenton and Belper to play, plus Normanton and Pelican.

This is how the fixtures schedule looks for the top six contenders in the title run-in --

BULWELL -- Mickleover RBL (A), Linby CW (H), Allenton United (A), Calverton MW (A), Belper United (A), Blidworth (H), Real United (H), plus one to be arranged.

BULWELL tuned up for their return to action by storming into the semi-finals of the Central Midlands League’s Phoenix Floodlit Trophy on Wednesday night.

Tackling South Division rivals, Mickleover Royals, in the Southern Section quarter-finals, The Bulls powered to a 4-1 victory on the back of a hat-trick by Jamie McKeever and a further goal from midfielder Felix Hogg.

The locals go back to the Derbyshire town this coming Saturday to take on Mickleover Royal British Legion in the league.
