The clinching of a lucrative, new sponsorship deal failed to prevent HUCKNALL SPORTS UNDER-16S sliding to a surprise defeat in the Saturday First Division of the Notts Youth League -- after a last-minute penalty-miss.
As well as agreeing to continue backing the team, Audi Nottingham have bought them a new away kit. But Sports were in no mood to celebrate after a 2-1 reverse against Keyworth United, whom they had already hammered 5-1 and 7-1 in previous encounters this season.
Keyworth supporters praised the Hucknall side as “the best footballing team in the league”. But that was scant consolation for a reverse that was hard to fathom.
Instead a day to forget was capped in the dying moments when James Hallam was unceremoniously taken out by the ‘keeper to earn a spot-kick, only for Adey Lang’s shot to be saved.
Sports had taken the lead with one of their trademark goals in the first half. It was the move of the match, starting from goalkeeper Kal Orton and featuring Matt Leivers, man-of-the-match Mitch Davies and finally Hallam, who spun and smashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
However, Keyworth not only responded with an immediate equaliser, they also grabbed the winner with a clever header that lofted over Orton. Either side of the goal, both Lang and Jarrod Davies were denied by the woodwork.
