Derby hero Calvin Andrew thanked the Stags fans for sticking by him as he celebrated his belated first goal for the club with the winner at Chesterfield yesterday.
Stags spent the 1-0 win under the cosh, but he headed the 37th minute winner and smiled: “I had said I would get one and it turned out to be a most important one today.
“We could have had a couple from set pieces and I thought we were very organised and that was the key for us today.
“I scored the goal but all the boys deserve the glory.
“Chesterfield are no donkeys – they played some great football.”
Andrew celebrated the goal by racing all the way to the other end of the field where almost 2,000 Stags fans were celebrating.
“I was almost on auto pilot as I ran down the length of the pitch. I just wanted to thank them for their support for me,” he said.
“I now think we can achieve whatever we want to achieve with the ability and quality of the players we have here.”
