Murphy’s treble is the Real deal

Hotshot Matt Murphy helped LINBY COLLIERY WELFARE bounce back from their Easter debacle in the Central Midlands League’s South Division.

Recovering well from a 3-0 defeat at the hands of bottom-of-the-table Blidworth, Linby beat Real United 3-2.

And top scorer Murphy fired a hat-trick to top a purposeful performance by Dave Marlow’s side.

Playing a 4-3-3 formation, Linby showed genuine quality and improvisation, oprimised also by some excellent work from fellow strikers Damian Mann and Kyle McDermott, who earned 16th and 33rd minute penalties that Murphy dispatched.

Although the centre-back pairing of Matt Peberday and Terry Henshaw were superb, Real hit back to level in the second half with goals that included a superb free-kick from 20 yards.

But Linby responded pleasingly and netted the winner when good work by Mann and Tom Coupe led to a cross that Murphy converted.

LINBY LINE-UP (4-3-3): Holmes C./ Banister, Henshaw, Peberday, Coupe/ Ryan, Niblett C., Payne/ Murphy, Mann, McDermott. Subs: Start A. (for Murphy 72), Burke (for Mann 80), Dakers, Miller, Butler.
