Six-goal Warriors on the warpath

Hucknall Warriors were convincingly 6-1 winners at previously unbeaten Borussia TNF to kickstart their EMPAL Division Three season.

Welcoming back several ex-players, Warriors started off well but fell behind to a freak goal on 15 minutes as Borussia’s first shot on goal curled its way into the far corner of the net.

Warriors continued to pressure on the opposition goal, Dean Clifford forcing an excellent save out of the goalkeeper and Tyler Stafford putting in some excellent long throws, one of which proved profitable for Warriors as Alex Featherstone, on the far post, headed the ball back across the goal and into the net to level.

Warriors deservedly took the lead on 30 minutes, Featherstone with another well-directed header.

Ryan Gunn also tested the Borussia goalkeeper before Warriors added a third, Stafford unleashing a bullet of a shot from outside the area.

Featherstone was unlucky not to add Warriors’ fourth as his header hit the crossbar before seemingly crossing the line but nothing was given.

Despite increased Borussia pressure after the break the visitors continued to have the better chances, Jac Stevenson firing just over from a Tom Hall long throw and Liam Burley shooting just over the bar from well outside the area.

The referee awarded a penalty to Warriors with 60 minutes gone, Zac Conway brought down by the keeper on the edge of the area, man of the match Featherstone stepping up to convert the penalty and claim his hat-trick.

Warriors added two more goals before the final whistle, Conway beating the keeper to the ball to head in and Ren Cooke reacting quickly to squeeze the ball in at the near post.
