Happy HUCKNALL SPORTS UNDER-11S WHITE swept to the top of the Young Elizabethan League’s Sunday Third Division by becoming the first team to beat previous leaders, AFC Vernon Colts White.
The match started with both sides boasting proud 100% records. But before the first half had even ended, Sports found themselves 4-0 up -- and they went on to win 5-3.
Piling on the pressure, the locals were rewarded with a goal apiece from Keegan Stubbs-Booth and Jake Thorpe, followed by a double from man-of-the-match Josh Vere.
Vernon hit back to net two goals of their own before the break. but Thorpe added his second, and the visitors’ third was a mere consolation.
HIGH-flying HUCKNALL SPORTS UNDER-12S kept themselves in contention for promotion with an entertaining 2-2 draw against top-of-the-table Moorgreen Colts in the Sunday Second Division of the Young Elizabethan League.
Twice Sports led -- thanks to excellent strikes by Mitchell Wright and Brandon Morton.
But Moorgreen hit back each time with goals from Finlay Hayes, and after both sides missed chances, a draw was a fair result.
THE chase for the Young Elizabethan League, Saturday Third Division title by HUCKNALL SPORTS UNDER-10S WHITE gathered more momentum.
For they strode to a comfortable 2-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Nuthall thanks to goals from Owen Stubbs-Booth and Ciaran McBride.
Stubbs-Booth, who is nicknamed ‘Suarez’, turned his defender and placed a shot by the ‘keeper after a brilliant through-ball from Matthew Snell.
And McBride sealed the points with his fourth goal in two games, driving into the bottom corner after a terrific run.
Sports piled on the pressure for most of the game and would have scored more goals but for the Nuthall ‘keeper, whose saves included one to deny Harvey Stokes.
They remain third in the table, six points behind leaders Gedling Southbank Red. But they have two games in hand.
