A one-man comeback mission by Danny Taylor was not enough to keep Hucknall side HALF MOON in the Notts Sunday Morning League’s Premier Section Cup.
Taylor gave Moon the lead, went on to bag a hat-trick and also hit the woodwork as his side recovered from 4-1 down to cut the deficit to 4-3.
But opponents Clumber still strode to an 8-3 victory to follow up the 5-0 hammering they had inflicted on Norma Hatfield’s team only seven days earlier in a Premier Division league game.
This time, Moon had some of their experienced players back, and they deservedly went in front early on.
Like Taylor, midfielder Chris Fletcher was also denied by the woodwork, but the tie turned on its head after Clumber had equalised from a penalty, tucked away by Wes Burke, towards the end of the first half.
Quickfire strikes by Jordan Curtis, Robert Nnaji and Abou Sylla increased the home side’s advantage before two more goals from Taylor, including a blistering 30-yard shot that would have graced the Premier League, kept Moon’s hopes alive.
Threre was to be no miracle, though, because further goals from Yasser Ali (2), Sylla and Liam Taylor raced rampant Clumber past the finishing line.
