Trophy-hunting HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE have enjoyed a brief break from Central Midlands League (CML) action before facing a couple of big cup-ties in the space of five days.

Rolls’s last two matches in the league’s South Division, scheduled for last Saturday and Wednesday night, were both postponed.

Saturday’s attractive home clash with reigning champions Clifton All Whites was called off because the groundsman at the Rolls-Royce Leisure Club at Watnall Road was worried about the state of the pitches. They had cut up badly when played on the previous week after bad weather, so the groundsman ordered a weekend shutdown to protect them.

Rolls were then due to travel to Southwell City on Wednesday night, only for that to be postponed also because of an unfit surface. Now they are bracing themselves for cup-ties that could help to determine whether they end their debut season in the CML with or without silverware.

On Saturday, they entertain Sherwood Colliery in the Third Round (last 16) of the league cup, and next Wednesday night, they are at home to Belper United in the southern quarter-finals of the Floodit Cup.

Sherwood sit in the bottom three of the North Division after losing 14 of their 18 league games. But they did knock out Bulwell in the previous round, winning a thriller 5-4.
