Friday night’s League Two trip to Southend United proved to be a night to forget for Mansfield Town as they lost 3-0 and finished up with nine men.
New loan signing James Alabi was shown a straight red after just 31 minutes of his debut with Lee Beevers following him for a second yellow card near the end, though the visitors also had a man dismissed.
Trailing 1-0 after 24 minutes, Stags were stunned to find themselves 2-0 down on 43 minutes after the referee adjudged Alan Marriott had caught team mate Jamie McGuire’s header behind his own goal line.
Kevan Hurst’s stoppage time shot deflected in for number three off Ritchie Sutton to cap a night to forget for Stags, who have now gone 428 minutes of League football without a goal.
