Weather woe for title-chasing Rollers

The chance to step up their pursuit of the Notts Senior League, Senior Division championship was sunk in the mud for HUCKNALL ROLLS LEISURE last Saturday.

In line with many on the day, Rolls’s scheduled match at fast-improving Wollaton was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

The postponement enabled leaders Kimberley Miners Welfare to stretch their lead over second-placed Rolls to five points because they escaped the clutches of the weather to pull off a terrific 2-1 victory at Awsworth Villa.

That was one of only three games played in the top flight -- the other two both finishing 5-3 as lowly Sandhurst beat Burton Joyce and bottom-of-the-table Keyworth United lost at home to Cotgrave.

Weather permitting, Rolls hope to return to action this coming Saturday at home to Boots Athletic.
