UNLUCKY -- Mason Frizelle, who was beaten in the dying seconds.

Taekwondo starlet Mason Frizelle (pictured), of Bulwell, suffered wretched luck in the European Junior Championships, held in Porto, Portugal.

For he was knocked out in the opening round by an Italian opponent who went on to land the gold medal.

What’s more, 17-year-old Mason, who is a member of Hucknall’s Kang Han Taekwondo Club, was only beaten in the last TWO SECONDS!

He was leading Roberto Botta but got caught by a headshot that was carded and, therefore, denied him victory.

Mason, of Apollo Drive, Bulwell, was one of 14 youngsters, aged 14 to 17, in a strong Great Britain team for the 19th championships.

He competed on the final day in the under-73kg class, having won selection for the team after a string of impressive performances in Spain, Germany and Austria.

To prepare for the tournament, Mason spent three months at the British Taekwondo Academy in Manchester and also took part in a training camp in Korea.

Mason, whose mum Kerry is a coach at Kang Han, is an all-round sportsman and has won a prestigious soccer scholarship in the USA next year.
