Club captain quits Town

CAPTAIN Gary Sucharewycz has left Hucknall Town to join Unibond League, Division One South side Grantham Town.

The popular defender, who is nicknamed 'Scrabble' because of his complex surname, told Town boss Bryan Chambers of his decision at training on Thursday November 12.

Sucharewycz (28) felt he could no longer honour his contract at Watnall Road because of work commitments

Chambers said: "Gary has left the club as he felt it was becoming a struggle for him to honour his contract as he wasn't always able to train on a Thursday evening.

"He has done this purely for the good of the football club as he felt he couldn't just keep picking his money up if he wasn't able to attend all of the training sessions.

"He is a true professional and I can't thank him enough for his attitude and the professionalism he has shown in his time here at Hucknall Town.

"He will always be welcome back here and I'm hoping that one day he will come back to the club in a management position as he is a local lad and loves this football club."

An uncompromising centre-half, Sucharewycz was in his third spell with The Yellows. He made his debut on October 8 1997, aged 16, against Borrowash Victoria in the Evans Halshaw Floodlit Cup.

Sucharewycz left The Yellows at the end of the 1999/2000 season and had spells at Matlock Town, Eastwood Town,Redditch United and Alfreton Town before returning to Watnall Road for the 2005/2006 season.

He then moved to Hednesford Town before another return to Hucknall in October 2007.

Sucharewycz had made 15 appearances (plus four as substitute) for The Yellows this season.

Former Yellows striker Stef Frost, who was released as part of the trimming of the wage-bill at Watnall Road last month, has joined The Yellows' divisional rivals Matlock Town.

The 20-year-old former Notts County player never really got going at Watnall Road and since joining The Yellows last March made 6 appearances (plus 18 as sub) and failed to score.

Meanwhile, Hucknall midfielder Willis Francis is nearing a return to full fitness. The 23-year-old former Notts County man had been out with a hamstring injury.
