Club’s strength shines

LILLY Bennington and Ann Taylor won the final of the annual Rolls Leisure pairs knockout tournament which had 48 competitors from
local clubs, Mansfield and Derby.

The strength of the club shone through as the final was between two teams from Rolls, Roy Walker and John Walker losing out to Lilly and Ann after an exciting game.

In league action, in the Notts EBA Mixed Division Two against West Bridgford, Rolls recorded a 62-36 win.

Ann Taylor, Mark Foulds and Alan Harvey won 20-6; Lilly Bennington, Terry Simpson and Stuart Newton won 17-5; Pauline Harvey, Ron Clurow and Alan Parker scored five on the penultimate end to win 17-13 with the only rink to lose being Rose Hobbs, John Etches and Roy Walker who lost 12-8.

In the Notts Federation Midweek Mixed division, Rolls recorded a big 103-33 win over Hucknall Titchfield Park.

The convincing win was spearheaded by Janet Adams, Mark Foulds and Dave Adams scoring on 14 of the eight ends, to win 45-7. Maureen Gunn, Greg Umney and Geoff Gunn were 18-0 up after 11 ends before winning 25-7. Ann Taylor, John Etches and Bert Wright won 23-7, while a much closer game was Rose Hobbs, Stuart Newton and Alan Park who fought back from 7-1 down to win 16-12.

The second game of the week against Hucknall Titchfield saw a much closer encounter with Rolls winning 80-57 in the Notts Federation Midweek Mixed Division One.

Ann Taylor, Ron Clurow and Stuart Newton won 22-15. Janet Adams, John Walker and Dave Adams won 22-11; Maureen Gunn, Terry simpson and Geoff Gunn won 18-16 and Lilly Bennington, John Etches and Mark Foulds won 18-15 to complete a great week.
