Coach leaves after defeats

IT HAS been a frustrating week for AFC Hucknall Town in the Central Midlands League South Division, resulting in head coach Tony Cox leaving the club by mutual agreement.

Saturday saw them crash to a 3-0 defeat at Calverton Miners Welfare.

Daniel Hogg got things underway after half-an-hour for the home side before Luke Attenborough made it two on 60 minutes.

Hogg struck again late on to seal the points.

Sixteen-year-old defender Connor Bramhill was Town’s man-of-the-match.

Three days earlier, Hucknall had been beaten by a last minute strike in a 4-3 defeat to Blackwell Miners Welfare.

Town started with an almost first choice side for the first time this season and playing a formation that suited the players available based on last season’s under 18 side.

Kamar Davis opened the scoring for Town from long range but then Blackwell equalised when their forward ran through looking at least five yards off side to beat stand-in keeper and Town assistant manager Paul Stevenson.

Town’s neat passing football paid dividends as they went 3-1 up with a header from Davis and a lovely four man move finished by man-of-the-match Jeremy Moran.

Within the first five minutes of the second half Town should have been six up but for some fine goalkeeping by the Blackwell stopper combined with some poor finishing.

They were punished, as two controversial goals were followed by a 93rd minute winner to compete the comeback and leave Town with nothing from an otherwise pleasing performance by a young side featuring two 16-year-olds.
