IT’S nothing but doom and gloom for fans of Nottingham Forest at the moment.

But at least they get the chance to share memories of a legend of former glories when Duncan McKenzie visits the Dispatch district for a sportsman’s evening.

McKenzie, who is now 61, scored 41 goals in 111 appearances for Forest between 1969 and 1974 before making a big-money move to Leeds United.

Renowned as a sublimely skilful striker, he also played for Everton, Chelsea, Blackburn Rovers and Anderlecht in a successful career that ended with a spell in the USA.

He is remembered with affection too at Mansfield Town where, in two loan spells from Forest, he netted ten goals in 16 starts. In total, he scored 131 goals in 390 games.

McKenzie also attracted media attention for his eccentricities off the field, which included the ability to jump over a Mini car and to throw a golf ball the length of a football pitch!

Since retiring, he has carved out a career as a newspaper columnist, radio pundit and after-dinner speaker. He visits the Dispatch district on Tuesday March 13 at Bestwood Village Social Club.

Tickets, priced £10, are available from the club on 0115 8409330 or from Richard Greenwood on 07790 646365.
