Garnett’s solo goal not enough for Town

Hucknall Town’s inconsistent form continued as they fell 3-1 to fellow strugglers Romulus on Saturday at Watnall Road.

Two goals from Romulus striker Daniel O’Callaghan helped to condemn Hucknall to the defeat.

The Roms were always looking the more likely to score in a dreadful first period and O’Callaghan notched the opener after 18 minutes, firing home from keeper Lewis Exhall’s long goal kick.

Jamie Brown had Hucknall’s only effort on goal in the first-half, but his shot from 25 yards was easily saved.

Worse was to follow for Hucknall after the break as Dexter Ravenhill struck home a free-kick on 52 minutes.

Ashley Jackson should have scored after Hucknall gave the ball away, but his right-foot shot went high and wide.

Burton Albion loanee Evan Garnett gave Hucknall hope on 72 minutes with a superb solo run and shot that beat Exhall at his near post for his first Yellows goal.

But hopes of a comeback were short-lived as O’Callaghan outjumped Jason Fisher in the Hucknall goal to nod home from under the bar.
