Hucknall put on Sunday best to take title
HUCKNALL secured a winning draw to seal their first ever league title, the Mansfield Sunday League’s Premier Division.
A winning draw against Farnsfield on the last day of the season enabled Hucknall to leapfrog Eckington and stay ahead of Mansfield Hosiery Mills who succumbed to a losing draw.
Skipper Max Thompson won the toss and opted to bat first and he and Andy Carden put on 28 from the first four overs, Thompson the benefactor of a dropped catch on eight.
Robin Maxwell was also dropped but went for 15 after which Ryan Buckley dominated the rest of the innings with a century of 100.
He received support from Richard Greatorex (22) and Josh Buckley (33) as Hucknall posted a 244-6 from 40 overs.
For Farnsfield, Matt Payton was the chief wicket-taker with 3-67.
In reply, Hucknall got a great start with the first three wickets falling at 0-1 and 0-2 off the first four balls of the innings and then 15-3.
Farnsfield were rescued by a 107-run partnership from Matt Sisson (58) and Curtis Mitchell (55) but they were never up with the run rate and they finished way behind on 156-8 from 40 overs.
For Hucknall, Robin Maxwell (3-22) and Jake Wright (3-27) topped the wicket takers.
