The ground is in need of a minor makeover after showing signs of wear and tear, so Town are hoping volunteers will pop along to assist the club with a ‘DIY SOS’-style operation they have labelled Maintenance Day.

“We are looking for volunteers for all kinds of jobs,” said spokesman Pete Lee, who is The Yellows’ press officer and webmaster.

“The ground needs a general tidy-up, but also seats in the stand need cleaning, CCTV cameras need to be installed and the floor wants fixing in the home dressing room.

“Guttering joints need to be re-sealed and lights have to be re-fitted in the function room of the social club. The roof on the cabin next to the club shop must be repaired too.

“We also need help with weeding and, in the changing rooms, with the shower-room skirting and the cladding of both home and away doors.

“If you can help with anything, or know someone who can, it will be appreciated. We would be grateful for any spare time you can spend at the ground tomorrow. We do plan to have a barbecue afterwards for all those who have helped.”

Town are keen to get their ground shipshape before their opening pre-season friendly, which is next Wednesday (7.45 pm) at home to Coalville Town, who are managed by ex-Yellows boss Tommy Brookbanks. Three days later, on Saturday, July 9 (3 pm), they entertain Long Eaton United, which will be followed by another home match against Staveley Miners Welfare on Wednesday, July 13 (7.45 pm).

Andy Graves takes his squad on a bonding weekend away to boost team spirit on Saturday, July 16 when they take on Redcar Town, who are managed by one of Town’s former FA Trophy and Unibond League winning heroes Roy Hunter, and then enjoy a trip to Redcar races the following day.

They return home for another Watnall Road friendly on Tuesday, July 19 (7.45 pm), this time against Clipstone. And the pre-season action continues on Saturday, July 23 (3 pm) with another home match, although Loughborough have replaced Quorn as their opponents.

Meanwhile a good time was had by all at the club’s presentation night at the Talk Of The Town social club, where Kasally Danso landed the top two awards as manager’s player of the season and players’ player of the season. Michael Banister won the supporters’ player award, with Cameron Davidson scooping the equivalent accolade handed out by the assistant manager and the committee.

For the successful reserves, goalkeeper Mike Randall was named players’ player and shared the manager’s award with Jeremy Moran. Winners of the top awards for the Sunday team were Jordan Phillips, Elliott Christie and Rob Needham.
