Linby let lead slip at Real

LINBY Colliery Welfare were brought back down to earth following the 3-0 win at Sutton Town as they fell 3-2 at Real United in the Central Midlands League South.

It was a game Linby could and should have won, but without the services of new keeper Jack Harvey and Matt Peberday, they let a 2-1 lead slip to suffer their first defeat of the season.

It had started so well, Damian Mann putting Linby in front on 17 minutes with a well-struck shot from 22 yards out.

Real drew level four minutes later through Danny Belcher from close range, before from Dave Marlow’s free-kick, Linby’s Kyle McDermott’s rasping volley was cleared off the line by Alfa Grey.

Linby went back in front on 36 minutes when a neat move ended with Mann putting Jonty Bradshaw in and he tricked his way past Matt Ottley who then fouled the Linby winger. Matt Murphy duly tucked away the penalty.

Mann then saw a one-on-one saved by the keeper early in the second-half, while at the other end Mark Beaumont saved from Dalton Stephens, but the equaliser came when Grey’s cross found sub Cory Johnson to turn the ball home.

Az Ryan put a great chance over the bar on 70 for Linby and it would be costly, as six minutes later Real got the winner with a fine turn and shot by Belcher which ultimately won them the three points.

LINBY LINE-UP: Beaumont, D Marlow, Paterson, Jago, Dakers, Bradshaw (Bennett 82), Ryan (Niblett 78), Winfield, Mann (S Mann 61), Murphy, McDermott.

Elsewhere, Linby’s under-18s lost 5-1 at Newark Town, Ross Keep scoring the visitors’ goal, while the under-10s game was called off on Saturday morning.
