MANN OF THE MOMENT -- Damien Mann (left), who bagged Linbys equaliser on their travels

A FIRST-ever visit to Holbrook St Michaels saw Linby Colliery Welfare come away with a point from a hard-fought 2-2 draw in the South Division of the Central Midlands League.

Linby were without the services of five key players, Matt Peberday, Kyle McDermott, Mark Jago, Jonty Bradshaw and Terry Henshaw, but had a dream start when going a goal up inside three minutes.

Damian Mann’s corner was half cleared to Matt Murphy and his low cross was turned in at the far post by Martyn Burke.

Murphy went close from 25 yards on nine minutes and an Ash Winfield volley fizzed over the bar on 19.

Mann then beat two players and shot inches wide before a controversial incident saw Holbrook’s Luke Tozer remain on the pitch following an altercation with Linby keeper Jack Harvey.

Linby continued to dominate, Az Ryan seeing a free-kick well saved by Lee Stringer.

Into the second-half and Mann first saw a shot tipped over and then a goal disallowed for Linby, before Holbrook levelled on 69 minutes when a cross wasn’t dealt with and Dan Sharp poked in from eight yards.

Stringer was now single-handedly keeping Holbrook in the game with saves from Dakers and Winfield, and the hosts in fact took the lead on 77 when Tozer hooked the ball in.

But the equaliser came four minutes later when Murphy played in Mann who finished well one-on-one to seal a point.
