McMahon on course for Pool Open title

FORMER champion John McMahon is on course for another HUCKNALL POOL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP title after reaching the semi-finals again.

McMahon overcame a tricky quarter-final against dark horse Joe Etherington, who had knocked out three-times former winner Pete Wright in the previous round.

Four times Etherington led in the 15-frame tie before McMahon, who took the title in 1998 and was also runner-up in 2001, finally took control to win 8-4.

Etherington's exit means there is now only one Hucknall player left in the prestigious 1,000 competition.

He is Danny Butler, who takes on John Harvey when the other three quarter-finals are played at the tournament's headquarters, the Empire Social Club off Beardall Street, Hucknall.

In the other ties, Neil Jones takes on Wayne Parsonage and Gary McLeod plays Clint I'Anson.

McMahon and Jamaican international McLeod, who was runner-up in 2005, are the two favourites.
