Narrow win for champions

BULWELL’S 100% start to the Notts Senior League. Senior Division season continued but they could only narrowly overcome bottom side Sandhurst last Saturday.

The Bulls started brightly and Scott Litchfield went close on five minutes with a header, while Conor Carter saw his effort go narrowly wide a couple of minutes later.

Sandhurst almost caused a shock on 11 minutes when they were allowed time on the edge of the box and the resulting effort causing James Wheat to pull off a good save.

Carter was again on hand to fire a low drive that went inches wide while Griffiths in the Sandhurst net was a deserved man-of-the-match, pulling off some excellent saves to keep the scoreline blank.

Ten minutes before half-time the hosts again found space and the Bulls were lucky to see their effort bounce back of the bar and to safety.

Two minutes later the Bulls finally opened the scoring with Ryan King causing mayhem down the right and pulling the ball back for Carter to smash home from 12 yards.

The second-half saw the hosts’ keeper again the hero after denying Litchfield, Carter and King from adding to the scoreline.

Sandhurst almost levelled against the run of play on 67 with a low drive that had Wheat scrambling.

Carter then fed Litchfield after some excellent play down the right, but Litchfield failed to finish from six yards, putting his effort well wide with keeper beaten.

Jamie Moore unleashed a superb drive that hit the post eight minutes from time but Bulwell had done enough for all three points.

Bulwell line-up: Wheat, Ward, Walker (McCaughey 68), Murdock, Soar (c), Keetley, King, Niblett (Moore 68), Litchfield, Carter, Vipond (Buck 68). Not used: McKeever.
